Abstract: Zanna Bianca è uno dei più famosi romanzi dello scrittore statunitense Jack London, pubblicato la prima volta nel 1906. Considerato uno dei classici della letteratura per ragazzi, narra le avventure di un lupo con un quarto di sangue di cane, che nasce nel territorio canadese dello Yukon alla fine del XIX secolo e la sua ambientazione è ricavata dalle esperienze avute dallo scrittore come cercatore d'oro.Zanna Bianca ha una trama speculare all'altro famoso romanzo di London, Il richiamo della foresta, del quale è "il libro compagno, ma non il seguito", come scrisse lo stesso autore all'editore Macmillan in una lettera nel quale gli annunciava la composizione del romanzo.Il romanzo è fedele alla prosa precisa dello stile di London e presenta un uso innovativo della prospettiva narrativa: la maggior parte del romanzo è scritto dal punto di vista degli animali, descrivendo il modo in cui London ritiene che essi vedano il loro mondo a loro circostante e soprattutto quello gli uomini.

Abstract: Il vagabondo delle stelle è un romanzo scritto da Jack London nel 1915. Narra la storia di un professore universitario, Darrell Standing, detenuto nel carcere di San Quentin per l'omicidio del professor Haskel. Il protagonista, più tardi condannato a morte per aggressione e non per l'omicidio del professore, scrive negli ultimi tre giorni della sua vita le sue memorie. Più che memorie sono racconti di "viaggi" che fa durante il periodo di permanenza in carcere, soprattutto quando rinchiuso in cella di isolamento.Standing è sempre stato un detenuto ritenuto "incorreggibile", ossia "un essere temuto da tutti", e fortemente odiato da Atherton, direttore del carcere. Dopo alcune vicende, che coinvolgono un altro detenuto, Cecil Winwood, e una presunta dinamite nascosta all'interno del carcere, Standing viene rinchiuso in cella di isolamento. Qui subisce anni di torture e di camicia di forza, come punizione da parte del direttore, per non voler rivelare dove si trova la dinamite, della cui esistenza egli non è a conoscenza e che in realtà non è mai entrata all'interno del carcere.Alla fine del romanzo Darrell Standing, prima di venire impiccato per l'aggressione del secondino Thurston, descrive l'assurdità della pena di morte, il disagio sperimentato dai suoi esecutori e la sua assoluta serenità, alimentata dalla curiosità di vivere la sua prossima vita.
